a Cheap Holiday

Cheap Holiday

Welcome to a cheap holiday in my life. At least you get to go home at the end of the day!

Well, there has to be a first time for everything, I suppose. And Tuesday night was the first time I went to a rock show and felt truly robbed. Robbed to the tune of $26, which is what it cost me to get into the door for The Vines at the Theater of the Living Arts (known as the TLA round these parts). First off, the damn online processing and handling FEES were almost 50% of the face value of the ticket. Secondly, lead singer Craig Nicholls expended so much energy digging through the archives of Iggy Pop and Kurt Cobain for his onstage posturings I was getting ready to scream "plagiarism!" If he had spent a quarter of what he was wasting on rubbing his hair with his towel in just-that-video-camera-perfect-way, the show would have actually been enjoyable. As it was, the middle three-quarters of the set dragged, brought down by a set list that was poorly arranged and a frontman that was too lazy to concentrate on the music. In the spirit of Frank Zappa (who KNEW how to put on a show), "shut up and play yer guitar."
